Ahead of its upcoming North American theatrical release on August 30 and 31, 2026, GKIDS has released an official English-subtitled trailer for Baku Kinoshita’s anime film The Last Blossom. Screenings will feature the original Japanese audio paired with English subtitles.
In addition to directing, The Last Blossom features Kinoshita as the character designer. The project is written and originally created by Kazuya Konomoto, with concept art by Michinoku Toge. Studio CLAP is handling the film’s planning and animation production.
The movie’s Japanese voice cast includes:
- • Junki Tozuka as Akutsu (Past)
- • Kaoru Kobayashi as Akutsu (Present)
- • Hikari Mitsushima as Nana (Past)
- • Yoshiko Miyazaki as Nana (Present)
- • Pierre Taki as the Hosenka flower
Originally launched in Japanese theaters on October 10, 2025, under the title Hosenka, the film was previously showcased in the Work-in-Progress lineup at Annecy 2024 before becoming an official selection in the Feature Film Competition at Annecy 2025.
GKIDS outlines the plot for The Last Blossom as follows:
Former yakuza Akutsu is serving life in prison after a middling career in the underworld. On the night he lays dying in his cell, he reminisces with his only companion, a smart-mouthed flower growing out of a can, about the choices that brought him here, the woman he loved, and a child he would give everything to protect. Is redemption out of reach?
