Konami has announced that Suikoden: Star Leap (known as Gensō Suikoden: Star Leap in Japan), the latest title in the beloved Suikoden role-playing franchise, is scheduled to debut in Japan on August 7.
While Konami plans to bring the game to iOS, Android, and PC via Steam globally, the initial Japanese launch on August 7 will exclusively feature the iOS and Android versions.
An official release date for regions outside of Japan has not yet been shared on the game’s English social media channels.
According to the official website, the narrative of Gensō Suikoden: Star Leap unfolds as follows:
The Rune of Change is one of the 27 True Runes said to have forged the world. The story begins just east of the expansive Scarlet Moon Empire, in a lakeside village. One fateful night, the protagonist—son of the village chief, Hou—returns triumphant from his first successful hunt. As the village celebrates with high hopes for the future, a sudden raid shatters their peace, altering their destinies in an instant. Alongside companions Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur, our hero sets out on a quest to restore harmony. Caught within the massive currents of fate, a young hero’s modest adventure ultimately evolves into a grand ambition—for the sake of those they hold dear.
Chronologically, Star Leap is set after the events of Suikoden V but before the original first game in the series. The main campaign will feature full voice acting.
Kaho Nakamura has provided the theme song, titled “Campanella.”
Additionally, Aki Shimizu, the manga artist behind the Suikoden III adaptation, is set to launch a brand-new manga series based on the game on November 5.
This follows the March 2025 release of Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, Konami’s modernized versions of the first two classic titles, which landed on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
The franchise is also expanding into animation, with a Suikoden II anime adaptation slated to premiere in October. Yūzō Satō (credited as YUZO on the English portal) is directing the project at KONAMI animation, the publisher’s in-house studio.
Konami originally introduced the Suikoden series on the PlayStation console in 1995, followed by its critically acclaimed sequel in 1998. To date, the franchise spans five main entries alongside five spin-offs.
